Recommendation Process

Q1

How do I clear my credential?
  • California has a two-tiered credentialing system for teachers. Preliminary programs prepare candidates to obtain an initial teaching credential through successful completion of required coursework, fieldwork, and a performance demonstration of their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • The second tier of preparation is a two-year job-embedded individualized induction program that is focused on extensive support and mentoring to new teachers in their first and second year of teaching.
  • Individuals holding a Preliminary Teaching Credential are required to clear their credential within (5) five years of the issuance date on the credential. Induction must be done in the state of California. Most school public school districts (not charter) and County Offices of Education offer Induction programs.
  • Point Loma Nazarene University does not offer an induction program.
    • The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) provides information on all of the school districts and county offices of education that offer Induction.
    • Please review this link for Institutions Sponsoring Teacher Induction Programs in your area.
